Getting around Dublin

Busses, the LUAS, the DART- public transport in Dublin is pretty good, theoretically. Dublin itself is a walkable city anyway. When vacationing in Dublin, there is no need for expensive bus rides as most tourists stay in hotels in the city center anyway. When staying a bit less central, the publics serve you well. Along with living in Dublin, getting around is not too cheapy either- sorry folks! Check out the website of Dublin Public Transport to catch current fares. As for June 2019, a student Leap card does have a maximum of 140 Euros per month so you simply cannot pay more than that but this is still a bunch of money.

A Leap Card is the Oyster Cards of Dublin.

However, as Dublin is a relatively small capital, the streets are packed and you may find yourself in a traffic jam way more often and longer than expected. Depending on where you wish to catch the bus, they will not stop and let you hop on.

If I were you, I would walk as much as possible, especially during peak.

As for nights out, think of how to getting home before. There are a few (more expensive!) bus routes but firstly, I never get where they actually go and secondly, when they depart. I always walk home or take a cab. The last busses usually depart at around 11:30 pm.
